Tabor Takes Unusual Approach with Auto Calls

Gives Out Own Cell Phone Number to Voters

Kernersville, NC ñ Nathan Tabor, candidate for Congress in the 5th Congressional District of North Carolina, sent a recorded phone call to likely voters that included his own personal cell phone number to call for more information and for discussion of issues. Tabor decided the approach would be unique and would combat the misinformation that was sent to voters by mail by one of his opponents.

Once the recorded message was sent, Tabor received over twenty-five calls within in an hour.

ìLook, politics can be dirty, but I donít have to be and I am not going to let my candidacy be portrayed in a wrongful light. I have said all along that I want to be accessible to voters before I am elected and afterwards. The easy way for people to find out what I am about and the issues I stand for is for them to hear from me personally. I love talking about the issues with voters,î Tabor said.

ìThis was not a last second decision. His cell phone number is also on our mail pieces,î said Jason Saine, Grassroots Director.

Traditionally, candidates try to restrict their personal contact information from being published or publicized; not Tabor. He freely gives out his e-mail address to people he has met on the campaign trail and includes it on his campaign website.

Tabor admits the approach may cause ìsticker shockî when he gets his next bill. ìIf sharing my views costs me a few overage minutes, then so be it. The voters can certainly ëhere me nowí,î joked Tabor. ìRadio, television and newspapers are great mediums to reach voters, however, a voice on the phone is real.î

The call to voters did cause some division within his campaign. Taborís wife Jordan joked, ìThatís Nathan. He wants to win and he wants to accurately represent the people here in the 5th District. I am sure the next couple of days he will probably be on the phone non-stop.î
