Mt. Airy News Covers Nathan Tabor

By ANGELA SCHMOLL
Associate Editor

MOUNT AIRY ó Nathan Tabor has a plan for what heíd like to do if elected to Congress this fall.

In fact, his campaign materials for the 5th District seat in the House of Representatives contain the outline of a 10-point plan that Tabor says is based on ìfaith, family and freedom.î

ìElected officials talk a lot about issues, but they tend to not do a lot,î said Tabor. ìIím pro-life, pro-guns and pro-God, and anti-tax and anti-big government. You can look at our plans and weíve put specifically in writing what we hope to achieve, then gone out and got support for it.î

The Tabor Plan, as presented in his packet, is called the Taxpayerís Bill of Rights and includes: across the board tax cuts, repeal of the anti-family marriage penalty, permanent elimination of the estate tax, two-thirds majority to raise taxes in Congress, comprehensive tax reform and elimination of the IRS, limiting the growth of government, line item veto for the president, independent audit of all government agencies, sunset provision on federal agencies and balanced budget amendment.í

ìAll the candidates talk about lowering taxes, but Iím the only one who has written a plan and obtained the endorsements of people either doing the job or who have done the job,î he said. At 30 (Taborís Web site includes pictures of the birthday celebration), Tabor might seem inexperienced for the job. But he said that like Rep. Richard Burr, who is leaving the seat to run for the U.S. Senate, his youth and lack of political ties are an asset.

ìRichard Burr when he first ran was a young, successful businessman with no political baggage,î he said. ìI think thatís what people are looking for this time as well.î

Tabor said he is the only candidate who has not only talked about jobs, but created them by hiring 152 employees at his business, Revival Soy. Heís looking at helping current businesses grow and identifying new pharmaceutical and agricultural entities to replace the jobs lost in tobacco.  ìI donít think government should create jobs, but should help stimulate them,î he said.

Heís also come into the 5th District to be involved in events that are for causes he supports, such as the Walks for Life in Mount Airy and Elkin, which were to raise funds for Lifeline Pregnancy Help Center, a pro-life crisis pregnancy center in Surry County.

ìMomma always told me: ëMany may doubt what you say, but they will believe what you do,íî said Tabor. ìIt seems weíre the only ones working for what we say.  ìWeíre Christian, conservative and Republican, and that is how weíve tried to align ourselves.î

Tabor said he is making the rounds of all of the areas in the 5th District about every two weeks and expects to be in Dobson June 19 for a watermelon social at Fisher River Park at 3 p.m. For more information about Tabor, visit his website at www.taborforcongress.com
