Tabor Calls for Prayers and Wise Judgment on Eve of Supreme Court Decision

Tabor Calls for Protection of ìUnder Godî in Pledge

Kernersville, NC ñ Nathan Tabor, candidate for North Carolinaís 5th Congressional District, called on Americans everywhere to pray for the Justices of the Supreme Court so they will make a wise decision tomorrow as they consider the controversial case concerning the inclusion of the phrase, ìunder Godî, in the Pledge of Allegiance.

The case was brought by Michael Newdow, an atheist who does not want his 9-year-old daughter exposed to the phrase "under God," which Congress inserted in 1954. The girlís mother, Sandra Banning, is a born-again Christian and is raising her daughter as a Christian. The mother says that the girl has no issue with repeating the phrase, ìunder Godî.

The very liberal 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, which is based in San Francisco, handed down the initial ruling in June 2002 that declared that reciting the pledge in public schools as unconstitutional because the words ìunder Godî amount to an endorsement of religion.

Nathan Tabor called on all Americans of faith to pray for a decision that protects the ìunder Godî phrase in the Pledge of Allegiance. ìThis is the problem with activist judges such as those on the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. They are handing down decisions based on judicial activism rather than sound judgment based on written law. We need to pray that a wise decision is handed down from the U.S. Supreme Court that protects our rights and respect what this country was founded on. This is not an endorsement of religion but rather an endorsement of a way a free people are allowed to demonstrate their patriotic support of their country.î

Tabor contended that while the Pledge of Allegiance was not an endorsement of religion, people of faith could not ignore the wrong road the country is on in regards to ignoring our Maker. ìAn article I saw today from an intern at the Heritage Foundation put it best,î said Tabor, ìIn the Old Testament, Joshua commands his people to ëchoose you this day whom you will serve.í Clearly, the United States is at the same crossroads.î
